When was the last time I wasn't broken in three sets? Most of all I'm feeling relieved. About having played solid throughout the match. And about feeling so much fresher again physically and mentally. It makes everything so much easier. Of course you can't be satisfied with every aspect of the game again after one good match. The return really has to improve a lot. And I have to get closer to the baseline during the rallies. But right now happiness and relief outweigh everything else. Such an important win for me.]

Just wicked to be in the third round of the US Open. My first ever third round in an Grand Slam. It's a mega success for me. But I would have preferred to reach it against anybody else. It was so tough out there today. Everything. In the first two sets Ernests returned better and served much better than me. I didn't have the courage to hit my strokes like I would have to if I want to have a chance against Ernests. In the end of the third set something happened. He suddenly was not at 100 per cent. And at the same time I started returning calmer and started playing better and more aggressive from the baseline. But it wasn't a good match afterwards. Everything complicated and difficult. And it was extremely tough to finish it against a friend when he is not at 100 per cent. I managed to do that professionally. I am proud to be in the third round of the US Open. But the feeling is odd at the same time.]

Pour Gael/Richie, je penche aussi pour Gael, jouer contre Richard le met très à l’aise, il a de bons souvenirs contre lui cette année et à l’USO. Richard fait du beau boulot vu le contexte mais c’est un sale tirage.
